Holly: Your teacher is Miss Stephenson. Your class email address is holly@churchfields.q1e.org.uk

Magnolia: Your teacher is Mrs Wakefield. Your class email address is: magnolia@churchfields.q1e.org.uk

In most circumstances, questions can be answered here. If not, please send your email to arc@churchfields.q1e.org.uk and we will get back to you shortly.

The children are also supported by Mrs Aiyeki, Ms McEnery, Mrs Vimal, Ms Hussey, Mrs Coyston, Ms Michalias & Ms Vamos.

In the ARC, all learning is personalised to meet each child’s individual needs.

We closely assess progress against short-term targets linked to each child’s EHCP outcomes, which can be found on their personal learning plans and are reviewed termly.

Children’s achievements are also tracked in small steps using B Squared, allowing us to celebrate even the smallest successes.

For children working within the Engagement Model (Pathway 1), assessment is carried out carefully through written observations and photographic evidence.

Our Summer Term Learning Theme: A Day at the Seaside!

Literacy, Language, and Communication

• Developing communication skills such as attention, listening, turn -taking and requesting

• Writing skills, including constructing sentences using colourful semantics

• Vocabulary development, including pre-teaching key words and photo-to-symbol recognition

• Spelling and grammar

Some of the stories we will be reading: What the Ladybird Heard at the Beach, At the Beach, A Day at the Seaside (sensory story)

Reading

Children will continue to develop decoding and phonetic fluency through one-to-one phonics teaching using the Little Wandle scheme, as well as by reading with an adult. Key texts in English lessons will further develop comprehension skills.

Maths

We will build a strong foundation in:

• Numbers and place value

• Fractions

• Sorting and classifying

• Shape

• Weight and mass

• Volume and capacity

Science

This term, our topic focuses on habitats around the world, as well as exploring micro-habitats within our own school community.

Life Skills

Cooking and Food Exploration

Children will bake biscuits, make ice lollies, and prepare fruit salad.

They will explore different types of food, plan and make their own, and evaluate the results. This develops understanding of processes, following instructions, measuring, fine motor skills, and self-help skills.

Some children will take part in Food Sensory Exploration sessions, which provide a low-pressure, enjoyable way to explore different food textures.

Practical Life Skills

• Packing a bag for outings

• Choosing appropriate clothing for the weather

• Posting letters

• Buying items while shopping

PE

Your child’s PE days are:

Holly - Thursday

Magnolia – Monday

Your children will need to bring their PE kits into school to get changed into. We will return these kits to you at the end of each half term.

Swimming

Swimming lessons will take place at Beckenham Spa on Mondays in the Autumn and Summer term.

Children will need to bring their swimming kit, towel, hairbrush/comb and optional bathing cap (all children with long hair must have their hair tied back).

Forest School

Forest School is on Wednesdays. Children will need to bring in a Forest School Kit bag to get changed into. Please make sure your Forest School kit bags are full of everything required.

Spare Clothing

Additionally, could you all please ensure that your children bring a spare change of clothes that can stay at school. The simplest error can cause a lot of discomfort to your children so we would like these stressful moments to be as comfortable for them as possible.

Communications between home and school

Please feel free to contact us via our class email if you have any questions or concerns. For a brief in-person chat, we are available at drop-off or pick-up times. Should a longer meeting be needed, this can be arranged by appointment.

Updates are shared through Seesaw, including photos of your child’s learning. A half-termly newsletter is also sent to keep you informed about all the exciting things happening in the ARC.

Additionally, please watch out for information about our parent coffee mornings, parent workshops, open classrooms, and the ARC Café (hosted by the children).

Thank you for all your support.
